LAMPS > TABLE LAMPS > Floor lamp I - Florescence

FLOOR LAMP I – FLORESCENCE
It’s my first floor lamp and without a doubt, the most demanding one so far.
Head of the lamp is made of senegalese calabash. Its diameter is 29cm.
Height of whole lamp is 161cm.
The wooden base is made by Stanisław “Siacho” Smerecki from UniqueWoodDesign http://www.uniquewood.eu/
It is wenge wood (Millettia laurentii) from central-west Africa (Congo, Cameroun).
Diameter of the base is 32cm.
The supporting stem is finished off with black jeweller waxed string.

95% of all holes in the lamp were first planned and place of each single hole marked.
The lower perforated part contains 111 circles. Depends on the diameter, each pattern is different. All circles are made of exactly 5942 holes.
Going up is the part with nine carved circles around. The axis of symmetry of every next circle is rotated by 40 degrees. Analogously is with the rings in each big circle. Every inner ring of circles is rotated by 40 degrees from the outside one.
Between big carved circles, on the top and the bottom, on the perforated part you can see the circles that are drilled according to the same principle.
It’s the first time when I could quite accurately estimate the number of all holes in the lamp and it is 16.000 holes +/- 200.

LAMPS > TABLE LAMPS > Table lamp XIX

TABLE LAMP XIX
Lamp is made of senegalese calabash.
It’s made of the thickest gourd I’ve been working on so far (about 1cm) so the carvings are really deep and structure looks more 3D.
Also because of the thickness, drilling had to be done very precisely in the direction of the light source.
At the bottom of the lamp is closing part locked with little magnets.
The base is finished with brown jeweller waxed string.
At the end of the base, on the wooden part is carved Calabarte logo with month and year when lamp was finished.
Diameters of the gourd are 22 and 24cm. Lamp is 39cm high. Diameter of the base is 26,5cm.

LAMPS > TABLE LAMPS > Table lamp XVIII

TABLE LAMP XVIII
Lamp is made of senegalese calabash.
White carvings are deeper layer of wood which allows some light to pass through it.
Especially with white thin lines was quite laborious work.
At the top of the lamp is closing part locked with little magnets.
The base is finished with black jeweller waxed string.
At the end of the base, on the wooden part is carved Calabarte logo and date when lamp was made (06.2012 – it was the main month of work).
About technical information in INFO section.
Diameter of the gourd is 21cm. Lamp is 35,5cm high. Diameter of the base is 24,5cm.

LAMPS > TABLE LAMPS > Table lamp XVII - Continuo knot

TABLE LAMP XVII – CONTINUO KNOT
Lamp is made of senegalese calabash.
The geometry of the pattern is charted on a base of dodecahedron.
Shorter 6,5cm thorns are placed on the vertices of dodecahedron and longer 9,5cm are in the center of each pentagon. So there is 20 shorter and 12 longer thorns (one of them is modified to put the cable inside).
Pattern of the white strip was developed from three “trefoil knots”. Each one was modified in particular way to connect it with other. So finally it is one continuous strip 320cm long.
The lines that divide the strip it into parts are lines going from the center of each of the twelve pentagons – 5 to the vertices, 5 to the midpoints of the edges and 10 angle bisectors. So each pentagon is divided into 20 parts and that’s why there is 240 parts on the strip.
The carving depth on each one is not constant to make the shading effect.
Thorns are made of beech wood painted with natural oil and finished off with brown jeweller waxed string.
On the bottom of the lamp is a hole which is locked by small magnets.
The diameter of the gourd is 19,5cm, lamp is 32cm high. The dictance between the tops of the opposite longer thorns is 38,5cm.

LAMPS > TABLE LAMPS > Table lamp XVI

TABLE LAMP XVI
Lamp is made of senegalese calabash.
It is the first lamp where I used halogen light bulb (more technical information in INFO section).
Thanks to it the light patterns on the walls are more clear and more details are visible.
White carved circles are deeper layer of wood which allows some light to pass through it.
At the top of the lamp is closing part locked with little magnets.
The base is finished with brown jeweller waxed string.
At the end of the base on the wooden part is burned Calabarte logo with date when lamp was finished.
Diameters of the gourd are 18 and 21cm. Lamp is 35cm high. Diameter of the base is 24cm.

LAMPS > TABLE LAMPS > Table lamp XV – String Structure

TABLE LAMP XV – STRING STRUCTURE
Lamp is made of senegalese calabash. The pattern of the lamp is structure of symetric, crossing branching as from the perforated layer through three basic outer forms to the deeper light carvings. White surfaces are deeper layer of wood which allows some light to pass through it. Although the thickness of gourd mostly don’t exceed 4mm (more is on the top and bottom) the carved patterns in that places create structure of three different depth. Each one shines with different intensity. That carvings were definitely the most demanding part of work. The supporting stem is finished with brown jeweller waxed string. Also the part of the cable between base and switcher is weaved by thin string in the same type. The base is carved in wood and finished with natural italian oil. On the underneath side of the base is burned Calabarte logo with date (month and year) that lamp was finished in. Diameters of the gourd are 20 and 22cm. Lamp is 45cm high.
Lamp was finished in December 2011.

LAMPS > TABLE LAMPS > Table lamp XIV – Globe II

TABLE LAMP XIV - GLOBE II
Lamp is made of senegalese calabash. Like the first Globe it’s a precise model of the Earth. Meridians and circles of latitude are marked every 20 degrees; the contours of the continents are reconstructed accordingly. The land is marked by a deeper layer of white wood which allows some light to pass through it. Meridians and circles of latitude are perforated so light passing through them makes light effects on the walls around. Lamp has closed form. The opening part around circle of latitude 60 is locked by small magnets. The head of the lamp has set position. In this case The Pacific Ocean is not so attractive so it’s on the one side of the lamp an the other is more interesting. The supporting stem is finished with brown jeweller waxed string. Also the part of the cable between base and switcher is weaved by thin string in the same type. The base is carved in wood and finished with natural italian oil. On the underneath side of the base is burned Calabarte logo with month and year that lamp was finished in. Diameter of the gourd is 24 cm and lamp is 41 cm high.
Lamp was finished in September 2011.

LAMPS > TABLE LAMPS > Table lamp XIII – Thorn Sphere

TABLE LAMP XIII - THORN SPHERE
Lamp is made of senegalese calabash. More simply and fiat pattern is charted on a base of dodecahedron. I also wanted by single lines of perforation to get more skarp light effects that will be diverging steadily inside the room. Untypical, coherent form of lamp doesn’t have evident base but there is only one position that it should stand in. Lamp has a hole that is lock by small magnets. Thorns are made of oak wood, painted with natural oil, and finished off with black jeweller waxed string. Their length are 9cm and 6cm. White carvings are deeper layer of white wood which allow some light to pass through it. The thickness of wood in that places is also not constant so that made the effect of shading when it is shining. Diameter of the gourd is 20cm and lamp is 32,5cm high.
Lamp was finished in August 2011.
